Why India

Why study in India?

A large, well-regulated higher-education system, English-medium teaching and a lower cost of study than many destinations.

  • Recognised degrees

Indian universities are regulated by national bodies such as the UGC and AICTE, and many hold NAAC accreditation.

  • Taught in English

Programmes at our partner universities are taught in English, the main language of higher education in India.

  • Good value

Tuition and living costs in India are often lower than in many other study destinations. Each university publishes its own fees for international students.

  • Bengaluru, India's tech hub

All three featured universities are in Bengaluru, home to a large technology, start-up and business community.

How it works

Six steps to study in India

  1. 1

    Talk to a counsellor

Send an enquiry. We help you shortlist programmes and universities that match your qualifications, budget and goals.

  2. 2

    Apply

Apply to your chosen universities, directly or through the Government of India's Study in India (SII) portal, which issues an SII ID.

  3. 3

    Get your offer letter

Universities review your documents and send an offer letter with fees and deadlines. Accept the offer that suits you.

  4. 4

    Apply for a student visa

Apply for an Indian student visa (or e-Student visa, where eligible) using your offer letter and, if you have one, your SII ID.

  5. 5

    Travel to India

Plan your travel and accommodation. Most universities offer hostel options and help new international students settle in.

  6. 6

    Register with the FRRO

Register online with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (e-FRRO) after you arrive. The Study in India programme asks students to do this within 14 days.

Documents you will need

  • A passport valid for the length of your programme
  • Academic transcripts and certificates (Class 12 for undergraduate, a bachelor's degree for postgraduate)
  • An equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), where the university asks for one
  • English language test results, where the programme requires them
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Proof of funds to cover fees and living costs

Each university lists its own requirements. We check them for your programme before you apply.

Scholarships and fee support

Some universities offer fee concessions or merit scholarships for international students. The Government of India also funds scholarships through the Study in India programme and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
